The real DeepSeek app is free and available for Android and iPhone. On a computer, you don’t need to install anything: the web chat does the same job. Here is where to get each version safely.
The only safe place to start
Go to DeepSeek’s official download page: deepseek.com/en/download. Its buttons send you to the official app stores. If a page offering “DeepSeek” is not on deepseek.com, be careful.
Android
- Open the official download page on your phone and tap “Download for Android”, or search for “DeepSeek” in Google Play.
- Check the developer name before installing. The publisher should be DeepSeek, and the app should match the one linked from deepseek.com.
- Install, open the app and sign in or create an account.
About APK files: many sites offer a “DeepSeek APK”. Some are just copies, others contain adware or malware, and none of them get updates. If the app isn’t in your store, prefer the web chat in your phone’s browser instead of an APK from an unknown site.
iPhone and iPad
- Tap “Download for iOS” on the official page, or search for “DeepSeek” in the App Store.
- Check that the developer is DeepSeek before tapping Get.
- Open the app and sign in.
If the app doesn’t appear in your country’s App Store, it has probably been removed there. The web chat at chat.deepseek.com still works in Safari, and you can add it to your home screen with Share, then “Add to Home Screen”.
Windows and Mac
There is no separate desktop chat app to install. On a computer, open chat.deepseek.com in your browser and sign in. To make it feel like an app, install it from the browser: in Chrome or Edge, open the menu and choose the option to install the page as an app.
The download page also offers DeepSeek Harness for macOS (Apple silicon, macOS 13 or later) and Windows. It is not the chat app: it is a tool for developers that runs AI agents on your computer, edits local files and handles long tasks. If you just want to chat, you don’t need it.
How to spot a fake DeepSeek app
- It asks you to pay for a “Premium” or “Pro” version. The official chat has no paid plan.
- Its publisher is not DeepSeek, or the name is slightly different.
- It comes as an APK from a site other than the official stores.
- It asks for permissions a chat app doesn’t need, such as access to your contacts or SMS.
- It is covered with ads or pushes you to install other apps.
The app doesn’t work after installing
